What is Mountain Explorers Day?
A special enrichment day designed to add a little extra fun to the week. This play-based experience focuses on creativity, movement, and hands-on exploration rather than academics. Children will enjoy imaginative play, art, sensory activities, music, and outdoor adventures—all in a warm, nurturing environment.
Mountain Explorers Day is open to everyone (3 -5 years old)—your child does not need to be enrolled in a Little Mountaineers preschool class to participate. It can be enjoyed as a stand-alone option or added on to a child’s current preschool enrollment. It’s the perfect low-pressure, high-fun day for children and a great opportunity for parents to enjoy a few hours to run errands, work, or recharge while their child plays and explores with friends.

What the day looks like…
Welcome & Warm-Up Circle (Social + Emotional Start)
What it looks like:
Greeting each child by name
Simple songs, fingerplays, & prayer
Talking about the day’s theme (nature, animals, seasons, etc.)
Why we do it:
This helps kids feel safe, seen, and settled. Transitions from home → classroom can be hard, so this creates predictability and emotional security. It also builds early communication skills and group awareness.
Exploration (Creative + Cognitive)
What it looks like:
Crafts (painting, gluing, nature art)
Sensory bins (rice, water, pinecones, sand)
Simple themed activities (colors, shapes, animals, outdoors)
Why we do it:
Young children learn best by doing, touching, and exploring. This section develops fine motor skills, creativity, and early problem-solving while keeping learning fun and age-appropriate. You’re part of the process. We keep communication open and decisions shared—no black boxes or surprises.
Movement & Outdoor Play (Physical + Adventure)
What it looks like:
Playground time or nature walks
Obstacle courses, climbing, running
Group games or free play
Why we do it:
Kids need to move their bodies to grow strong and regulate their energy. Outdoor play also supports coordination, confidence, and a love for God’s creation—fitting the “Little Mountaineers” theme.
Snack, Story & Wind-Down (Connection + Calm)
What it looks like:
Snack time together
Storytime (books with simple lessons or themes)
Character trait of the month
Why we do it:
This helps children slow down, refuel, and process their day. It builds listening skills, encourages calm behavior, and creates a peaceful transition back to parents.
